Common Questions
Answers, before you ask
The questions we hear most from Central Coast pool owners.
Most weekly or fortnightly residential service plans sit between $45 and $90 per visit, depending on pool size, equipment, and chemistry needs. We provide a clear written quote after a complimentary on-site assessment, with considered pricing agreed before any work begins.
Most Central Coast pools do best with weekly service in summer and fortnightly in winter. Holiday homes, heated pools, and pools with heavy bather loads benefit from year-round weekly visits. We'll recommend the right rhythm during your site assessment — precisely what your pool calls for, and no more.
John has over 25 years of hands-on experience in the pool industry, with John Brennan Pools established locally on the Central Coast in 2019. Every engagement begins with John personally — your on-site assessment, consultation and plan are all his.
Ongoing care is then delivered by a trained team working to his exacting standard, so the quality remains consistent on every visit. Two decades of experience means most issues are recognised on sight, and rare problems are handled with confidence rather than guesswork.
Yes, almost always. Most green pools — even the bad ones — can be brought back to crystal-clear in 3 to 7 days without draining. We diagnose the cause (algae type, filtration, chemistry, phosphates), shock and treat correctly, then dial in your chemistry so it doesn't return. Draining is a last resort, not a first option.
Yes — this is a core part of what we do. We manage holiday homes across the Central Coast remotely, with photo reports after every visit, guest-arrival readiness checks, and direct communication with property managers or owners. You'll always know your pool is guest-ready, without needing to check it yourself.
Fully. We hold current public liability insurance and all relevant licences for pool servicing, equipment installation, and chemical handling in NSW. Documentation is available on request — and we recommend asking any pool service provider for proof before they touch your equipment.
We service the entire NSW Central Coast — from Wyong to Woy Woy, and every suburb in between. That includes Gosford, Terrigal, The Entrance, Erina, Avoca, Kincumber, Umina Beach, Bateau Bay, Budgewoi, and 80+ more. View the full suburb list →
It depends on your priorities. Mineral pools (magnesium-based) are gentler on skin, eyes, and hair, and use fewer harsh chemicals — ideal for sensitive swimmers and eco-conscious owners. Salt pools are lower-maintenance for chlorine production but still produce chlorine. We'll walk you through the real differences honestly, including running costs, before you commit.
For most Central Coast homes — yes. A correctly sized heat pump extends your swim season from roughly 4 months to 9–10 months a year, and modern inverter units cost a fraction of gas to run. We size every heat pump to the pool, the orientation, and your usage pattern, not to a generic chart.
NSW law requires pools and spas to be registered, fenced to AS 1926.1 standards, and inspected for a Certificate of Compliance — particularly when selling or leasing. The most common failures are gate self-closing mechanisms, climbable objects within 900mm, and gaps under fencing. We can advise on what's likely to fail before you book an inspector.
With proper maintenance: pumps 8–12 years, chlorinators 5–8 years (cells 3–5 years), cartridge filters 7–10 years, heat pumps 10–15 years. Coastal salt air shortens these timelines if equipment isn't installed and maintained correctly. We always diagnose before recommending replacement — many "dead" pumps just need a capacitor or seal kit.
Both. Many clients start with a one-off — a green pool rescue, an acid wash, a pump replacement, or a pre-sale clean — and continue with us only if they choose to. There's no obligation to continue beyond the work you've asked for. If we're the right fit, you'll know.
An acid wash is a controlled chemical clean of the pool's interior surface — usually pebblecrete or plaster — that removes years of staining, calcium build-up, and surface dullness. Most pools benefit from one every 5–10 years. It's a specialist job; done wrong, it permanently damages the surface, so always use a licensed, experienced operator.
Yes — pre-purchase pool inspections are one of the smartest investments a buyer can make. We assess the pool shell, equipment condition, water history, compliance status, and likely upcoming costs. You'll get a clear written report you can use in negotiation. Far cheaper than discovering a $6,000 heater problem after settlement.
